Man of Many Names Is Tied to a Video
By ADAM NAGOURNEY and SERGE F. KOVALESKI

LOS ANGELES — The spotlight in the search for the creators of an incendiary video mocking Islam that set off a wave of anti-American violence in the Middle East shifted Thursday to a shadowy gas station owner with a record of criminal arrests and bankruptcy, who associates said expressed anti-Muslim sentiments as he pushed for the making of the film.
The man, Nakoula Basseley Nakoula, 55, who lives about 20 miles south of Los Angeles, was identified by federal authorities as part of a network of people involved in creating the video, a 14-minute trailer for a supposed full-length feature called “The Innocence of Muslims.”
Mr. Nakoula apparently used a series of pseudonyms in his dealings with other people — including fellow backers and some of the actors — as the movie was produced in the summer of 2011 in the remote hills of Los Angeles County.
Mr. Nakoula was already known to federal authorities. In June 2010, he was sentenced to 21 months in federal prison for orchestrating a check-kiting scheme aimed at Wells Fargo Bank, though he served only about a year, court records show. He was also ordered to pay restitution of $794,700.
Prosecutors charged that Mr. Nakoula and other “co-schemers” opened bank accounts at Wells Fargo using false names and Social Security numbers. Prosecutors said he possessed at least 15 unauthorized credit and debit cards in the names of other people and at least 5 identification documents that were not issued lawfully.
He had financial problems before his conviction, records show, and declared bankruptcy in 2000. At the time, he claimed an income from his gas station of $2,000 and liability of $166,000.
Steve Klein, an insurance salesman also involved in the production, said that a person he identified as Sam — and who he now suspects may have been Mr. Nakoula — had enlisted his help.
“Sam said the intent of the film was to get extremist Muslims to stop killing,” Mr. Klein said Thursday.
Mr. Nakoula was unavailable for comment. There was no response to knocks on his door in Cerritos, Calif. As a media encampment swelled on the sidewalk, the knob on the front door to the house was removed.
The film’s amateurish trailer was posted on YouTube in June but did not gain widespread attention until it was translated into Arabic in the days leading up to Sept. 11. Among other things, the video depicted the Prophet Muhammad as a womanizer, a homosexual and a pederast.
“It looked like drunk people trying to do a ‘Saturday Night Live’ skit directed by the Three Stooges,” Mr. Klein said. “But it was absolutely spot on accurate in terms of its depiction of Muhammad and Islam.”
Mr. Klein has a long history of making inflammatory and sometimes inaccurate statements about Muslims.
Paul Audley, president of FilmL.A. Inc., the nonprofit organization that coordinates permits for filmed entertainment shot here, said a permit was issued under the film name “Desert Warriors” in August 2011, with Sam Bossil listed as the producer.
That name is now widely believed to have been a pseudonym. The similarities between that name and Mr. Nakoula’s middle name, Basseley, has fueled speculation that it was he.
The production organization was listed as Media for Christ, a nonprofit organization based in Duarte, Calif., which advertises its mission as promoting Christian values. It is housed in a single-story white stucco building across from a Walmart. The windows were papered over on Thursday, and there were no responses to knocks on the door.
The permit authorized one day of shooting at the Blue Cloud Movie Ranch in Santa Clarita. Rene Velezat, an owner of the ranch, did not return calls seeking comment. The Blue Cloud has frequently been used for Hollywood films, including “Iron Man” and “Get Him to the Greek.”
The film producers organized two screenings of the movie at the Vine Theater, an aging independent theater in Hollywood, on June 30, according to a flier promoting the event, which featured a photograph of Osama bin Laden. It did not go unnoticed; some community activists urged the Los Angeles City Council to intervene.
There were signs at the Nakoula home that the family may have taken cover inside in some haste — two cars were parked on the street haphazardly, with groceries still visible in one’s back seat.
The door bears a striking resemblance to the front door in one of the early scenes in the video. The inside of the home, viewed through a window in the door, also suggests similarities to the locations where that scene was filmed: the chandeliers and layout seem to be the same.
Leaders of the Coptic Church in the United States, after a fringe figure claiming to be a Coptic leader was linked Wednesday to promoting the film, forcefully denounced the video and denied any connection to the activists who promoted the trailer. They said they learned of the film only with news of the protests.
“We were blindsided,” said Marian Bishay, a well-known Coptic advocate in Los Angeles. “The community has come here fleeing persecution in Egypt. If we wanted to attack or condemn in the manner that this film has done, we could have done that hundreds of years ago.”
Adam Nagourney reported from Los Angeles, and Serge F. Kovaleski from New York. Reporting was contributed by Michael Cieply and Ana Facio-Krajcer from Los Angeles; Ian Lovett from Cerritos, Calif.; Lea Lion from Duarte, Calif.; Michael S. Schmidt from Washington; and Andrea Elliott from New York. Jack Begg contributed research from New York.

Media for Christ, Company Allegedly Behind 'Innocence of Muslims'
www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2012/09/14/media-for-christ-company-allegedly-behind-innocence-of-muslims.html
The Christian nonprofit Media for Christ reportedly took out a permit for a ‘Sam Bossil’ production that appears to have become the incendiary Innocence of Muslims, which has been linked to the violence in Egypt and Libya. Marlow Stern reports.
The cast of the film Innocence of Muslims, which reportedly helped spark violence across the Middle East, says they were duped by the movie’s producer and only signed up for a sword-and-sandals epic called Desert Warriors that had nothing to do with the Prophet Muhammad. That producer, who initially went by the pseudonym “Sam Bacile,” is reported to be Nakoula Basseley Nakoula, a California-based Coptic Christian who spent two days in jail and received three years’ probation after being arrested for “intent to manufacture methamphetamine” in 1997, and was convicted on federal bank fraud charges in 2010.
So far, Nakoula is being painted as the fall guy after a 13-minute preview for the incendiary film, dubbed over in Arabic and uploaded to YouTube, reportedly helped trigger protests in Egypt and Libya that left the U.S. consulate in the eastern Libyan city of Benghazi burned and the U.S ambassador to Libya, Christopher Stevens, dead, along with three other Americans. But what about the company behind the amateurish video, which depicts Muhammad as a sex-crazed sadist prone to acts of unspeakable violence? Media for Christ, a Christian nonprofit organization based in Duarte, Calif., took out a film permit for the production of Desert Warriors, according to spokesmen at Film LA, Inc., and the office of the County of Los Angeles.
“The International Media is crowded with many topics that do not bring glory to the name of the Lord Jesus Christ,” says Media for Christ on its its MySpace page. “The Lord has given me the vision for Media for Christ so we could proclaim the peace of Jesus through an effective Christian media that would positively touch everyone. In June 2005 by the grace of God Media for Christ was established to become the light that shows Jesus Christ to all human beings.”
Media for Christ did not respond to repeated requests for comment.
The office of the California secretary of State confirmed to The Daily Beast that Media for Christ is an active corporation established in June 2005 and that the owner is listed as Joseph Nassralla Abdelmasih, who often goes by Joseph Nassralla or Nasrallah. Abdelmasih also is listed as owner of The Way TV, a TV network established in 2005 that includes a talk show hosted by Steve Klein, who has said he was one of the consultants on Innocence of Muslims.
Abdelmasih is no stranger to controversy. After delivering a passionate speech at the 10,000-strong protest against a proposed ground zero mosque on Sept. 11, 2010, he was escorted off the premises by police. According to media reports, Abdelmasih and a friend were speaking Arabic to one another, which inflamed members of the rally.
“He was a Coptic Christian who spoke against the brutal oppression, subjugation, and persecution of Coptic Christians under the Sharia in Egypt,” Pamela Geller, one of the rally’s organizers and co-founder of the group Stop Islamization of America, told The Daily Beast.
Film LA, Inc., which coordinates and processes permits for film and TV productions in the Los Angeles region, told The Daily Beast that the film was shot in Santa Clarita. “The producer’s name on the permit was Sam Bossil, which is probably another variation on ‘Sam Bacile,’” said a spokesman. “We don’t ask for ID and it’s very common for companies to use ‘working titles’ for films, because of the public interest. We’ve had movies like The Dark Knight go under Magnus Rex.”
In a statement to The Daily Beast on the film permit for Desert Warriors, the County of Los Angeles public affairs office said: “The issuance of all film permits is handled by Film LA, on behalf of the County of Los Angeles. While these permits are typically made available to the public, online, this particular permit has been temporarily removed by Film LA, and the County of Los Angeles, and is not being made available to the public at this time due to public safety concerns raised by the U.S. State Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigations. The Federal government has not issued an official request to the County of Los Angeles to remove the permit.”
The film permit came at a cost of $1,100 and included lines that described minor special effects sequences but no film synopsis, a County of Los Angeles public affairs office spokesman said. The permit is being withheld because it includes the names and addresses of several players involved with the production, many of whom were production assistants or grips with little to no direct involvement in the project. A redacted version of the permit may be issued in the coming days, the spokesman added.
Several other strange videos of Abdelmasih, going by the variant Joseph Nasrallah are available on YouTube that depict him singing hymns. They seem pretty harmless.

Are they harmless? I don't know, as I am unable to read or speak the language. Any assistance would be appreciated in decoding what this guy is all about, as it seems to have caused so much trouble! IF THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG with this guy's stuff; inform law enforcement. Do not take the law into your own hands; that is WRONG and will get you in trouble.

Media for Christ, Led By Anti-Muslim Agitator Joseph Nasralla, Produced Incendiary Film
Rachel Tabachnick - Fri Sep 14, 2012
www.talk2action.org/story/2012/9/14/05433/1020/Front_Page/Media_for_Christ_Led_By_Anti_Muslim_Agitator_Joseph_Nasralla_Produced_Incendiary_Film
According to the New York Times, the Press-Telegram of Long Beach, California, and MercuryNews.com in Silicon Valley, the production organization that received the permit for the movie now known as "Innocence of Muslims" is Media for Christ. Media for Christ (website offline at posting) was founded and is led by Joseph Nasralla Abdelmasih, an Egyptian Coptic Christian who has been promoted by many of the country's most vocal anti-Muslim agitators.
Nasralla has spoken at rallies organized by Pamela Geller and Robert Spencer (hugging Nasralla in photo at right) and has partnered in projects with Steve Klein and Gary Cass, including the 911 Defend Our Students Campaign. Cass is founder of the Christian Anti-Defamation Commission, an anti-gay and anti-Muslim organization that includes a who's who of Religious Right luminaries on its advisory board. Media for Christ includes a production house for "The Way," a Christian satellite television program in English and Arabic launched in 2010.
[Authors Note: Many outlets are linking to the website www.mediaforchrist.org, which has no relationship with Joseph Nasralla's organization. Nasralla's websites are www.atvsat.com and www.mediaforchrist.net. ]
The Press-Telegram reported the following,
"Media for Christ, which has its administrative offices south of the 210 Freeway in Duarte, took out a film permit for the production, according to City Manager Darrell George.
...It was filmed in Santa Clarita," George said. He said he obtained the information from the L.A. County Sheriff's Department."
It is important to note, as stated in the Wall Street Journal, that Media for Christ and Joseph Nasralla do not represent Egypt's Coptic Christians.
"The views espoused by The Way TV and Media for Christ appear to be far from the norm among Egyptian Christians, known as Copts—a mainstream group of Christians with moderate views similar to those of other major Christian religions. The Coptic Church, like the Greek Orthodox Church, has its own hierarchy and leadership."
If the information from the Press-Telegram and other sources is correct, and Media for Christ produced the movie, then it is a product emerging from the heart of the Islamophobia industry in America.
The video embedded below is from the Robert Spencer and Pamela Geller-sponsored 911 Freedom Rally in 2011 and posted by Geller's Atlas Shrugged. Spencer introduces Nasralla as "coming from California, where he operates The Way, a Christian satellite TV station."
Nasralla and the Islamophobia Industry
Nasralla (also spelled Nassralla) participated in the 2010 anti-mosque rally at Ground Zero, also sponsored by Geller and Spencer, and received media coverage because of an incident at the event. The crowd surrounded Nasralla and another Egyptian speaker mistaking them as Muslims.
Spencer is the director of Jihad Watch, a program of David Horowitz's Freedom Center. Spencer and Geller founded Stop Islamization of America (SIOA), an affiliate of Stop Islamization of Europe and a project of their American Freedom Defense Initiative (AFDI). The AFDI is the sponsor of anti-Muslim advertisements on buses in Manhattan and San Francisco. Spencer and Geller describe their inflammatory activism as being "pro-Israel," although they have no doubt alienated many supporters of Israel. Sources, including a 2011 Slate article, counted the references to Geller, Spencer, and their collaborators in the writings of Norway's mass killer Anders Breivik, and found them cited over 250 times.
It was Spencer and Geller that organized the 2009 rallies around Rifqa Bary, the Muslim girl who ran away from home with the aid of her Christian proselytizers. See previous posts on this issue ( 1, 2, and 3) including the role of controversial pastor Terry Jones, who has also been reported as promoting the movie in question.
Media for Christ
Media for Christ received its non-profit designation with the IRS in 2009 and is described in the filings as follows. [Correction: Guidestar's 2009 date is incorrect. It was founded in 2005 and 990s for the organization are available beginning with 2005.]
"Media for Christ is a non-denominational evangelical Christian organization providing spiritual aid to people worldwide through its web site and its satellite TV station, the Way TV."
According to the organization's 990 tax forms, Nasralla (listed as Joseph N. Abdelmasih) is the president, Kamal Rizk of Raleigh, N.C. is vice president and CPA, and Rania W. Mossad is secretary of the non-profit. Income increased from 65,000 dollars in 2007 to over one million dollars in 2011. The latest available 990 showed a "program expense" of $10,500 dollars for "TV broadcast" in Egypt.
I have been unable to find additional information on the other two registered officers of Media for Christ - Kamal Rizk and Rania Mossad - but the 2011 obituary of Kamal Rizk's brother describes him as "the son of a furniture shop owner in Cairo." Kamal Rizk is quoted in the obituary,
" Kamal Rizk described his brother as a devout Christian who attended a Jews for Jesus worship service on weekdays and a regular church service on Sundays. He was also an active supporter of Israel and traveled to Washington each July to work with a group led by evangelist John Hagee to lobby Congress for support of Israel. "
The Way TV includes a show hosted by Steve Klein called "Wake Up America." Klein has told press that he "consulted" on "The Innocence of Muslims" movie, but denied to the press that Media for Christ produced the film. Klein and others have pointed to a "Sam Bacile" as director of the film, apparently a fictitious name. See the SPLC's report on Steve Klein.
Klein, Nasralla, and Gary Cass are partners in an anti-Muslim student outreach effort titled 911 Defend Our Students, which has included handing out fliers to students as they leave their schools. A Christian Newswire press release describes the program in the words of Cass,
"Muslims are trying to convert and radicalize our young people. By telling them the truth about the dangerous doctrines of Islam and the and wicked practices of Mohammad we are protecting our children."
Cass, former executive director of James Kennedy's Reclaiming America for Christ, co-founded the Christian Anti-Defamation Commission with General William S. Hollis. Projects have included a series of videos titled "Seven Reasons Barack Obama is not a Christian." The advisory board includes Matt Staver, Rick Scarborough, Lou Sheldon, Dick Bott, Ted Baehr, Don Wildmon, Leslee Unruh, and other Religious Right luminaries. Cass is one of the "Broadcast Celebrities of The Third Rail, along with Gen. William "Jerry" Boykin, Larry Pratt, and other "veteran patriots."
In photo at right, Joseph Nasralla (left) and Morris Sadek (right) are featured at the 2011 rally sponsored by Spencer and Geller. Morris Sadek leads the National American Coptic Assembly and is reported as promoting the "Innocence of the Muslims" video in Egypt.
Another name that has emerged in the production of the movie is Nakoula Basseley Nakoula, another Coptic Christian who has been described by ABC News as the "manager for the company that produced" the film. Nakoula, who was convicted of bank fraud in 2010, was located by press that tracked the phone number of Sam Bacile to Nakoula's address. This led to speculation that he was possibly the fictitious Bacile and responsible for the film. Someone using the name of Sam Bacile claimed to be an Israeli American and stated that the movie was funded by Jewish donors.
Update: Please note that some bloggers are going to a different Media for Christ website (mediaforchrist.org) that has videos of John Piper and Greg Laurie and has absolutely nothing to do with Joseph Nasralla's organization. Nasralla's website is primarily in Arabic and is currently offline. The LA Times describes the movie as the product of Joseph Nasralla and Nakoula Nakoula.
Joseph Nassralla Abdelmasih, the president of the Duarte-based charity Media for Christ, and Nakoula Basseley Nakoula, a convicted felon from Cerritos, emerged Thursday as forces behind "Innocence of Muslims."
...Media for Christ, whose stated mission is to "glow Jesus' light" to the world, obtained permits to shoot the movie in August 2011, and Nakoula provided his home as a set and paid the actors, according to government officials and those involved in the production.

ALL the information combined that I've read about this "Media for Christ" tells me that it is a Scientology storefront "Mirror".
A mirror site reflects the original site and gets distorted in Scientology's hands. It is not like a "back-up" of a hard drive, which is just an exact duplicate in case the original hard drive fails.
Scientology built "mirror" sites are meant to cause trouble. For instance in this case; their very existence is destroying the reputation of the original "Media for Christ" organization (the website of the same name ending in ".org". Although I am not certain that they are a legitimate organization not having done any research on them.
But this Joseph guy is taking down Christianity simply by operating under the "Joseph of Nasereth" association; he is destroying the Coptic Christian beliefs by attacking other religions while claiming he is representing them; and of course they are inciting violence and anger by mocking Muslims and the Islamic religion to create a war purposely to kill all the Coptic Christians (being the smaller number of people.). He has also brought the Jewish people into the attack. In fact; the evidence that Geller and Spencer interact with this group as well as their own does not bode well. It smacks of a close-knit wide-ranging monopoly of propaganda: Scientology.
If you ask me, it was invented not only as an excuse for someone else inciting deadly conflict in Benghazi (that is a real stretch. It didn't start that conflict at all!) But it DID give ISIS an "excuse" to execute thousands of innocent people, didn't it? THAT IS WRONG!
This next article is from L.A. Since that is where all this fake movie stuff was created; their information will have details the others do not. hopefully. California is also the home base of Scientology in the United States. If some scam originates from that region, it usually ends up starting with Scientology, but you need to work your way all the way backwards connecting details to get there. It takes good reporters/informants that include all the details to uncover the trail.

Christian charity, ex-con linked to film on Islam
Joseph Nassralla Abdelmasih of Media for Christ in Duarte and Nakoula Basseley Nakoula of Cerritos emerge as forces behind 'Innocence of Muslims,' the film whose trailer has incited violence across the Arab world.
September 13, 2012|By Harriet Ryan and Jessica Garrison
articles.latimes.com/2012/sep/13/local/la-me-filmmaker-20120914
One ran a low-profile Christian charity from a sleepy suburb east of Los Angeles. The other was a financially strapped gas station operator just out of federal prison.
In the last year, these men, both Egyptian immigrants, became unlikely collaborators in an endeavor that has shaken the stability of the Middle East.
Joseph Nassralla Abdelmasih, the president of the Duarte-based charity Media for Christ, and Nakoula Basseley Nakoula, a convicted felon from Cerritos, emerged Thursday as forces behind "Innocence of Muslims." An online trailer for the low-budget film incited violence in recent days across the Arab world.
Media for Christ, whose stated mission is to "glow Jesus' light" to the world, obtained permits to shoot the movie in August 2011, and Nakoula provided his home as a set and paid the actors, according to government officials and those involved in the production.
In a sign of the tensions the movie has sparked, Los Angeles County officials said the U.S. State Department had asked them not to release copies of the film permits containing information about who organized the shoot. Obama administration officials also flagged the trailer to YouTube and asked the company to review whether it violated the website's terms of service.
Both men appeared to have gone into hiding Thursday. As the furor over the film grew, they and their associates have distanced themselves from the production. Nakoula told the Associated Press he was a logistics manager on the movie, not the director. He told a Coptic bishop Thursday that he had no role in it, the clergyman told The Times.
"He denied completely any involvement," said Bishop Serapion of the Coptic Orthodox Diocese of Los Angeles.
An official at Media for Christ said Wednesday the charity was not connected to the movie and was upset by its controversial content. The same day, an associate who served as a script consultant told the paper that Nassralla "had nothing to do with it."
But Duarte's deputy city manager said she had been told by sheriff's officials that the permits to shoot the movie had been issued to Media for Christ. An actor who appeared in the movie, Tim Dax, said he was paid $75 a day in checks drawn on the bank account of Abanob Basseley Nakoula — a name linked to the Cerritos property where Nakoula Basseley Nakoula resides. The home's distinctive front door with triangle windows in a half-circle pattern is visible in the 14-minute trailer for the movie posted on YouTube.
Neither the charity nor the men have been a focus of anti-hate groups or law enforcement officials who monitor extremists. Their status as relative unknowns contrasts with that of Steve Klein, an anti-Islamic activist who had publicly acknowledged serving as a script consultant on the movie. Klein's views have been tracked by Muslim groups and others for years. One of his platforms was a weekly show on Media for Christ's satellite network, The Way TV.
That network, which broadcasts mainly prayers, sermons and hymns to Arabic Christian viewers in the U.S., Canada and the Middle East, was the chief project of Media for Christ prior to the movie.
Nassralla founded the charity in 2005 with $30,000 of his own money. In its 2011 tax filing, which covers the period of the filming, the charity reported having eight employees and contributions of $1 million.
"Due to the large number of donors, it [is] virtually impossible to provide names of donors," that filing states.
While Media for Christ public filings describe it as an evangelical organization working to spread the Gospel, Nassralla has devoted himself in recent years to criticizing Islam in speeches and interviews. With Klein, Nassralla joined in accusations that Sheriff Lee Baca was embracing the Muslim Brotherhood by allying with a prominent Muslim American civil rights group.

The above article is from New York. Some information coming out of there is good, an equal amount is bad and must be taken with a grain of salt. For instance, "The Atlantic" seems to know a great deal more about terrorist tactics, habits, and operations than anyone else in America. That is odd, like how accurate Rolling Stone was in detailing the lives and reasoning in the brothers in the Boston Marathon Bombing, and then trashed their reputation in the mis-reported "Rape case" so people would not pay attention to their accuracy preceding.... it's all in the details and it does follow the same patterns over and over again no matter what format you find the scenario in.
I'm not going to reprint this one. It's just G's way to try to not take responsibility, and blur his own trail so people won't think he does bad things. Usually he is not this pointed and blatant.

www.nytimes.com/2012/09/14/us/origins-of-provocative-video-are-shrouded.html
